SOURCES OF FUNDING
The Royal Society of Canada is a registered charitable organization. Since its founding, the Society has sought to maintain a diversity of sources of funding in order to ensure its independence. Initially the Society’s operations were financed primarily by annual membership dues. Occasionally, additional support for particular projects was provided by the Government of Canada. Unlike many other National Academies, the Society does not receive any block base funding from government. Much of the overhead and indirect costs are covered by volunteer service from the fellowship and, through the fellowship, from Institutional Members.
SUPPORTING THE RSC
The Royal Society of Canada has many opportunities for you to invest in major projects and current initiatives. However you can choose to target your support for the Society, your financial contribution makes a difference in sustaining our programmes and activities. Your gift can provide direct funding to advance the objective of your choice, and may be made in your own name, or to honour the memory of a special person in your life.
All donors to the Society will be acknowledged and recognized, unless they request anonymity. There will be distinct Donor Boards for major Society projects displayed in the hallways of Walter House. We recognize our donors as soon as possible for their contributions to the Royal Society of Canada. If you would like to make a bequest or other planned gift, please inform us so that we may acknowledge you today for your gift of the future.
To make a donation, please provide your contact and payment information. The contact information is required to generate a tax receipt. The electronic tax receipt will be sent to the email address that you provide.
The RSC donation system is secured through Moneris, a trusted provider of Internet security.
iIf you have any questions, please contact us at 613-991-6990 Ext. 103 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WAYS TO GIVE
The Society welcomes contributions from Fellows to a number of different projects and initiatives, both existing and new. It also welcomes contributions from Fellows and supporters in a variety of formats. Your gift can provide direct funding to support a specific RSC initiative or it can establish an endowment to sustain a project of special interest to you. The Annual Fund enables the Royal Society of Canada to undertake programmes in support of its core mission and mandate. These programmes include interdisciplinary bilateral events with other national academies, and enhanced communications with Fellows.
EXPERT PANEL FUND
The Expert Panels Fund enables the Royal Society of Canada to further its mission to Advise. The fund supports independent, comprehensive, and evidence-based studies in matters of importance to Fellows and to Canadians.
The College Fund enables the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists to develop and support its programming at this formative stage of its constitution. The College is Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the emerging generation of Canadian intellectual leadership.
WALTER HOUSE CAMPAIGN
Having been instigated by the leadership gift of Bill Leiss, the Walter House Campaign is entering its fourth year. To date, over $2.3 million of pledges have been received, which represents 89% of the campaign goal. In order for us to reach our objective of $2.6 million within five years, we require the continued support of the Fellowship.
The RSC has numerous Sponsorship Opportunities and Benefits programs for its Celebration of Excellence. These comprehensive programs outline the multiple levels of sponsorship opportunities presented at each event. For details on how you can become a sponsor, please contact Darren Gilmour, Executive Director at 613-991-5760 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We suggest that you consult your income tax, financial or legal advisers before arranging a planned gift. We would be pleased to discuss with you ways to support the Society.
